Legal Question in Criminal Law in Oregon
Bail Money
I posted a $5000 bail for my brother, whose charges against him were discharged. When I went to collect the $5000 bail money, they had taken out $1438.97 for back child support that my brother owed. Is this legal for them to take My money to pay for his child support beings that I posted the security bond, not him.

Re: Bail Money
Yep. They can also take 15% or $200 max, whichever is less, as an administrative fee. Jails and courthouses are snakepits. A lawyer is a licensed snakecharmer. Never visit a snakepit without a lawyer. If, in the future, by unfortunate circumstance you must visit a snakepit, call me at 503-999-8333.
