Legal Question in Criminal Law in Oregon

Can someone who under went Psychotic Depression get a senecne of one Five years

Fourteen and a half years ago, my birth mother shot me and she also shot herself in the stomach. Her lawyer had said at her trial that my birth mother was undergoing Psychotic Depression. I am very confused and extremely upset becasue she had only gotten a sentence of five years probation and had to take medication. Many years have passed and I do not understand why she tried to kill herslef and also myself. I believe that her sentence had not been fair and I strongly oppose it. Please tell me why this sentence was giving.

It sounds like you are very upset, and rightfully so, that your mother shot you and herself. However, the actions you are talking about, while performed by your mother's "body", were not performed by your mother. She was so mentally ill that she was not herself. However, when she took her medicine she was herself again. How can the judge punish her for doing something "someone" else did? That is the best I can explain it.
