Legal Question in Elder Law in Oregon

This can be a tricky question. Did you sign anything when your father was admitted to the care facility? You might want to review (or have an attorney review) what you signed if anything. It is not uncommon for care facilities to try to make relatives responsible for the elder's care.

Did you get any of your father's money or property when he went into the care center?

How is his care supposed to be paid - is it private? Should Medicare be paying?

Are you his Power of Attorney or have you been appointed as Guardian or Conservator? Is he capable of handling his own finances, if not who is responsible for them?

All of these questions need to be answered to determine who is responsible for your father's care costs.
