Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon

Adoption, Joint Custody & Child Support

I have 3 children. My ex and I have joint custody, but the children live with me and he pays child support. I recently married. My new husband wants to adopt the children, and the children as well as my ex are all for it. My question is if my new husband adopts the kids does that mean their biological father no longer has to pay child support?

Re: Adoption, Joint Custody & Child Support

QUESTION:

If my new husband adopts the kids does that mean their biological father no longer has to pay child support?

ANSWER:

Yes, that is exactly what it means.

If he is, as a matter of law, no longer the legal father of the children, he has, as a matter of law, no further legal responsibilities (and no further legal rights).
