Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon

Child support

I had a child with a girl in 1992 i have only met the kid 2 times and have had no contact with child or mother since 1996. It is now almost 2009 and i just got papers requesting child support. She lives in Oregon and I live in Florida. Will I have to pay back support or only since the child support was requested. Can she come after me in florida from Oregon.

Re: Child support

To answer your questions, more information is needed.

Particularly, regarding the papers you just got requesting child support, are from an Oregon child support agency or Oregon court? Or are they coming from a Florida child support enforcement agency or a Florida court?

Also, have you ever been declared or established as the childs legal father through one of the methods provided by law for doing so? If so, when and in what state?

In which state did the act of sexual intercourse that resulted in the mothers pregnancy occur?

How were the papers you now have received? Personal delivery by a process server? Certified mail for which you signed a receipt? Or something else?

Whether you will have to pay back support or only since the child support was requested depends on the law of the state that has jurisdictional authority over the case. And right now, without at least the info requested above, that determination cannot be made.

If you wish to proceed, you might want to give me a call. We can quickly make an assessment of your situation and you would then be in a much better position to decide what course of action to take.
