Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon

Child's choice

My ex told my 5 year old daughter that when she is old enough like 12 years old that she can choose to go live with him. My question is at what age can the child decide they want to live with the other parent. I am the one with sole custody. Also does it have to go through the courts?
