Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon

Childs Name

When my daughter was born her father was not around so I gave her my maiden name. We went to court and the judge ordered me to change her last name to his.Her older sister has his name. I want her to have the same last name as her sister but I don't want to get rid of the name I already gave her. My question is can I add his last name to her current name or do I have to change it to only his name?

YOUR POSTING:

MY RESPONSE:

You have to obey the court's order. The judge ordered that the child's last name be CHANGED to that of the child's father. The judge did NOT order that the father's last name be ADDED to the child's current name.

If the judge wanted the father's last name to be added to the child's current name, the judge would have so ordered. But it appears from what you have described that that was not what the judge did.
