Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon

Custody change or emancipation

I am a 16 year old student attending Amity High School. My mother is trying to move our family to Eugene because of a job transfer. I am responsible student on the ASB executive officer of our school and switching schools could ruin my future in the leadership program and in turn, lower my chances of getting into a good college. My father, with whom I do not live with, is only 7 miles away from my school. I am wondering if a custody change is possible so that I can live with my father and continue to attend school in Amity. I have been at this school since I was in third grade and my entire life is here. If this is not possible, I am wondering if emancipation is possible.

You need more help than I can give you here. Also, more details are needed regarding the situation between you and your divorced parents.

You really need to talk directly with a lawyer.

Suggest you contact the Oregon State Bar's "Problem Solvers" program:

Oregon lawyers volunteer as Problem Solvers to offer free legal information and advice to children. Any young person between the ages of 11 and 17 can call to request a referral to this program. Referrals include a thirty minute office visit with a volunteer lawyer. This service is not available in all areas.
