An opening brief is the document that the party taking an appeal to an appellate court files in which the case is explained in detail, the arguments are spelled out, supporting documents are attached, etc., so that the appellate court judges, upon reading the brief, will know what the case is all about and exactly what it is that the party taking the appeal wants the appellate court to do.

In particular

Rule 5.35 -- APPELLANTS OPENING BRIEF: INDEX

Rule 5.40 -- APPELLANTS OPENING BRIEF: STATEMENT OF THE CASE

Rule 5.45 -- ASSIGNMENTS OF ERROR AND ARGUMENT

Rule 5.50 -- THE EXCERPT OF RECORD

Rule 5.52 -- APPENDIX
