Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon

How do I find my Ex husband?

I have a judgement against my ex-husband to pay me back a certain amount of money and have been adivsed to garnish his wages by legal services. However, I cannot find him to have that done. I only know the state he lives in. What can I do to find him, I cannot afford an attorney.

Re: How do I find my Ex husband?

I have a judgment against my ex-husband to pay me back a certain amount of money and have been adivsed to garnish his wages by legal services. However, I cannot find him to have that done. I only know the state he lives in. What can I do to find him, I cannot afford an attorney.

ANSWER: If you know the state in which he resides, contact that state's Motor Vehicles Division and see if they will do a license check. (Some states do not allow for this service; others do. Those states that allow for DMV license checks usually charge a fee for the service, anywhere from $1 to $20.)

Also, try searching via the internet. Also most major city public libraries have phone directories from other cities. You might also contact debt collection agencies in the state where the debtor resides and see if they can be of any assistance.

But even if you find him, you will still have a problem in that you will probably need legal services to implement debt collection legal action (garnishment, levy, execution, etc.). If the debt is large enough and there appears to be a good prospect of successful collecton, you may find lawyers willing to take the case on a contingency basis (sometimes 50% of whatever is collected).

Hope this helps.
