Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon
gardianship for grandson
I have had my grandson since July 2007, now his mother has recieved at least one year in prison. She lives in Calif. I have no legal rights and would like to put him on my insurance and get his social security benfits sent to him, instead of his mothers account for her to have when she gets out. His father (my son) past away when he was not quite 2 two. I was hoping the state of Oregon would have jurisdiction since he has been here since July. I have had him school since Sept. She will not sign any paper due to the fact she would not be able to keep the social security money that is for him. How would I go about getting some legal rights?

QUESTION:
How would I go about getting some legal rights?
ANSWER:
Your question calls for more of an answer than I can provide here. Your best bet is to consult with a attorney in your county who will be able to assist you in establishing a guardianship and applying to the Soc. Sec. Administration to have you designated as the child's payee representative in place of the child's mother.
