Re: Guardianship of my granddaughter

My granddaughter is 16 years old and I have custody of her and she wants to go live with another family and they want her to live there also so what do I do? I thought of guardianship but am not sure what all that means. Thank you for your help.

ANSWER:

Oregon law, ORS 109.056, allows a parent or a guardian of a minor, by a properly executed power of attorney, to delegate to another person, for a period not exceeding six months, any of the powers of the parent or guardian regarding care, custody or property of the minor child except the power to consent to marriage or adoption.

The Power of Attorney form is available through the Stevens-Ness stationery store in Portland or any stationery store that distributes Stevens-Ness legal forms.

The form is No. 1478 (Delegation of Powers of Parent of Guardian).
