Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon

Judgement establishing maternity

What are the steps to doing so? Just call the court and set up a date to do this.. or do I go there and talk to someone about this? Does it cost anything to do it? Will I also be required to take a paternity test?

Re: Judgement establishing maternity

YOUR QUESTION:

Judgement establishing maternity. What are the steps to doing so? Just call the court and set up a date to do this.. or do I go there and talk to someone about this?

ANSWER:

Generally you establish maternity simply by giving birth to a child. Alternatively, you can establish maternity (thus becoming a mother) by adopting a child that was born to some other woman. Establishing maternity by giving birth does not require any judgment or court action. Establishing maternity via adoption, however, requires a Judgment of Adoption to make it officail and legal.

YOUR QUESTION:

Does it cost anything to do it?

ANSWER:

Yes, there would be birth costs, doctor bills, hospital charges, etc., if you establish maternity by giving birth. If you establish maternity by adopting some other woman's child, there would be legal fees and court costs.

YOUR QUESTION:

Will I also be required to take a paternity test?

ANSWER:

No, you do not need to a paternity test to establish maternity.
