Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon
Is my lawyer doing me wrong?
I am in the final stages of getting a divorce. My attorney filled out the final paperwork and then sent them to my ex wifes attorney to be signed. Shouldn't my attorney have sent them to me first for review? These papers have to do with whom gets what and how much child support I have to pay as well as spousal support. My lawyer never calls me to review anything before sending paperwork to my ex's lawyer for her signature. Is what she is doing legal? Also, my attorney put down false information on documents and wants me to sign. What do I do?

-----> ANSWER: Yes.

-----> ANSWER: Yes, it's legal. But not very smart and certainly not very professional. (After all, just whose divorce is it? The lawyer's or the client's?) You need to instruct your lawyer, very clearly, that the lawyer is not authorized to send anything to the other party's attorney without first clearing it with you.
Also, my attorney put down false information on documents and wants me to sign. What do I do?
-------> First, do NOT sign the documents containing false information. Second, change lawyers. The sooner the better.
