Can a person legally request that an individual in a custody case take a lie detector test? Can a person take a lie detector test on their own and submit the results to the court to prove they are telling the truth?

ANSWER: Yes, you can ask. (But if what you have in mind is to ask a judge to order it, the request will be denied, as there is no lawful basis for the judge to grant the request.)

QUESTION:

Can a person take a lie detector test on their own and submit the results to the court to prove they are telling the truth?

ANSWER:

Yes....and No. Yes, you can take a lie detector test on your own. But NO, you may not submit the results to the court to prove you are telling the truth. In most if not all states, lie detector test "results" are not admissible as court evidence.
