Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon

Pay off on car

My boyfriend was decreed in his divorce to pay off a 2000 Honda his ex-wife owned. She is trading the car in for a new, more expensive one. Is he still liable for the cost of the old car or the new one?

Re: Pay off on car

That's an interesting question. I'd have to see the decree language and perhaps do some research to fully answer it. However, based on your description, I'd be inclined to say the obligation is specific to that car.

I'd wait until she says something about it. On the other hand, if I were representing her, I'd first try to make an agreement with your boyfriend, and then return to court for clarification or modification of the decree.
