Divorce proceedings begin with a petition which is a request to the court for a dissolution of the marriage. The petition needs to be served on the other party who then needs to answer within 30 days. If no answer is made, then the petitioner needs to request the court for an order of default. If granted, then the petitioner needs to submit a judgment to the court for approval and entry in the court records. Nothing is automatic.
