Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon

What does possession of 9/10 of the law mean

My divorce was finalized one year ago. My ex still has not removed his items from my home. I want to know what possession of 9/10 of the law means, how long you have something in your possession before it takes affect, and if it counts in a divorce case?

Re: What does possession of 9/10 of the law mean

It can mean many different things, depending on the facts and circumstances of the particular case at hand. In your case, it has no meaning at all.

Write a letter to you ex telling him that he must retrieve the property -- or, if your are willing to do so, ask him to tell you where he wants it delivered. Send him two copies of the letter, one by regular mail and the other by certified mail, return receipt requested. Tell him in the letter that you must hear from him in response to your letter within 30 and that in the event he fails to timely respond, you will consider the property as abandoned and will then dispose of it in such manner as you deem appropriate.
