1 Answer from Attorneys
A restraining order is a court ordered restraint on certain actions of the subject of the order. Typically, the order is for a stated period of time. Until expired, modified, or terminated, the order remains in effect. Termination may be accomplished only by filing a new motion with the court asking that the existing restraining order be ended in advance of its original termination date. The court must enter a new order to that effect. Only then can the restraining order be ended. Oregon circuit courts typically provide forms on line for the petitioner to fill out and file with the court without the services of an attorney.
