Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon

reverse adoption

10 years ago I was badgered by my

now x-wife to adopt a child that was

staying in our foster home. The

argument went on for 2 years with

lots of witnesses that can testify that

I did not want a child. I finally agreed

on the basis that this was the only

way to save my marriage. We had

agreed before we ever married that

there was to be no children. I already

had 2. i was nagged until I gave in.

Then she started nagging to adopt

another. I refused, she left. I believe

she had the pre planned. She

adopted the 2nd child (handicapped)

herself and receives state adoption

assistance for both children in the

amount of 1700,00 + a month. Then

she gets child support from me for

the child I was fooled into adopting. I

haven't seen him since they left and

don't plan to do so. Can an adoption

be reversed on the basis of being set

up? I'm sure she had it planned for

me to adopt 2 children then leave

and collect support from me and

state assistance to boot. She is

financially o.k. and doesn't have to

work, while I'm left with $935.00 a

month to live on. I'm going to loose

my house. The payment is $700.00

a month

Re: reverse adoption

YOUR QUESTION:

Can an adoption be reversed on the basis of being set up?

ANSWER:

NO. An adoption, once finalized, makes the parent-child relationship the same, in the eyes of the law, as if the child had been born to the adopting parents in lawful wedlock with one another. Unlike a marriage, an adoption, once done, cannot be undone.
