Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon
Spousal Support
What is the oregon or washington law on spousal support? If a woman has been a career woman for more than 5 to 19 years and has been employed with the same employee for 11 years, is she entitled to spouse support? If the woman is requesting $900.00 child support and also wanting an additonal $500.00 for spousal for indefenatley, can she be entiltled to that? What are the stipulations for a person to recieve spousal?

Re: Spousal Support
I can't speak to OR law; I am not licensed there. Maintenance turns on need and ability to pay and the duration of the marriage and the lifestyle of the parties during the marriage and the property distribution.
That said, it depends. You can state your case as to why she should not get maintenance, she'll say why she should. The fact that she can demonstrate a capacity for self support is not dispositive.
Stipulations are agreements reached between the parties, rather than decisions handed down by a judge.
The other advantage of maintenance is that it is a tax deduction to the payor, and can be taxable to the payee, which reduces your income overall.
Get a lawyer and have them review your situation and help you figure out what is likely to happen. Hope this helps - Elizabeth Powell
