Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon

I am working on changing my daughter's last name. I would also like to file for custody. I am wondering if I can file for custody and then change my daughter's last name or does it have to be the other way around.

Custody and the name of the child have nothing to do with one another. And the legal proceedings and procedures for a change of name are entirely different from and unrelated to the proceeding and procedures pertaining to child custody.

You can do either without the other. and there is no advantage to doing either before the other.
