Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Oregon

Defamation of Character

Is it defamation of character if you call someone an ''unsafe nut''? The ''nut'' in question already has a reputation as being unsafe, but it is just frequently discussed opinion. The person has a business teaching riding lessons, but has no credentials or training. General opinion by experience, credentialed horse people who have witnessed her training is that she does not know what she is doing and puts children at risk. She is also know to regularly makes false statements.

Re: Defamation of Character

Thanks for your question. If you told it to the person directly and it was not "published" (ie: not heard by another), than it is not defamation.

Please feel free to call me with any questions.
