Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Oregon

What are my legal rights concerning a breach of contract for a document I did not sign? The forgerer has been indicted and plead guilty on other numerous counts of ID theft/wire fraud. The company that was defrauded (in Maryland) is suing me for the monies (obtained in Minnesota). Not sure what to do now. I cannot afford an attorney (in Oregon) and/or a lengthy trial. I cannot find any representation in Oregon for a case in Maryland. Any ideas?

You have a defense that you didn't enter into the contract. If you haven't communicated with the company that is suing you then you should at this point. Tell them exactly what you know about the forgery/ID theft. If the perpetrator was or is being prosecuted then find out who the district attorney is (after all, you are the victim) and request that that person talk to the company that is suing you. If you do nothing, whether you can afford an attorney of not, you will have a default judgment entered against you.

Wherever the lawsuit is pending against you you may be able to get legal representation through legal aid (i.e., free legal assistance).
