Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Oregon

sued for something i did not do

I received a summons and am being sued by someone i have never heard of for something i did not do. The plaintiff claims i had a car accident with her and is suing me for $100,000. I was living in Paris France for the entire year that she is claiming that the accident took place. I have never been in an accident. The summons says I need to appear and give a response or a motion. I contacted the lawyer that sent me the summons to tell them I think they made a mistake but they do not seem to have the same urgentcy that I do. what should I do?

You will need to get your own attorney. Immediately. If you have an auto insurance company for the time period while you were out of the country, you should also immediately contact them, because they may cover your defense.

Do not just ignore this because if you do, the other attorney will take a default judgment against you and that is much more difficult to deal with.
