Re: denial of coverage

An insurance company can discontinue or cancel you, pretty much when they feel like it. The laws governing this vary a great deal from state to state, but Insurance is a highly regulated industry, usually by the state governments.

Here in Oregon, the best resource for both info AND complaints, outside of hiring a lawyer, that is, is to call the OREGON INSURANCE COMMISSION in Salem. If there was an inappropriate insurance company move, they're the ones who police them.

But as to CANCELLING your coverage? Sure they can cancel with a claim pending. But note that this would NOT RELIEVE THE INSURER FROM PAYING on a claim which arose before the cancellation, unless they're saying you didn't have coverage that day in the first place, or there was some OTHER reason. But NO, so long as your insurance was IN PLACE on the DATE of the LOSS, the fact that they cancel your insurance AFTER that should have NO effect on their obligations under your policy, for events ocurring BEFORE that cancellation.

Good luck!
