After 3 months employment.....the policy changes
After three months of working for a company I am being asked to remove an eyebrow piercing. I never attempted to hide this piercing. I wore it to both job interviews and any other time I came to their office before the offer was made. At the time of the job offer nothing was said about having to remove the piercing. The "company personnel policies" states under "dress standards" All employees must adhere to the dress code, uniform code, and tattoo and earring policies posted at each location" As far as I have ever seen there is not a polilcy stating this posted at the location where I work. I have now been told that I have to remove the piercing. I realize that it may seem stupid to some, but, to me it is not right for a company to suddenly change their mind about something such as this. Am I correct or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Generally, an employer can impose any requirement it wants on employees. Oregon is an "employment at will" state, meaning the employer can terminate at any time and the employee can quite at any time. Unless the order to remove the piercing is subturfuge for discrimination on the basis of race, age, disability, etc., then its not illegal. Exceptions exist, but its likely they can do what they're doing to you.
