Legal Question in Employment Law in Oregon
wrongful termination
I was fired recently for requesting that I get the dent in my car fixed that my bosses husband made. He agreed to pay for it and she through a fit and said well if we have to pay for your car then I wont be needing you to come back. she paid for my car to be fixed then i lost my job because of it, Is there something I can do about that? There is much more that goes on too. Im pregnant for one and instead of letting me continue the office job she hired someone else to train and I had to do house work. She worked me harder than ever when she found out I was PG. she has been trying to make any excuse to get rid of me and I dont know why because I work my butt off for her.If you would like to know more let me know because there is a whole lot more that im sure she isnt supposed to be doing and is. Thank you for your time.

Re: wrongful termination
Generally speaking, if an employer terminates employment because an employee insists that the boss' husband pay for damage to the employee's property and the employee is an at-will employee [i.e., no contract, no union, not a government employee]then most likely there is no basis for suit.
However, if an employer discriminated against the employee because of pregnancy, then the employee could file an administrative complaint and a subsequent lawsuit for damages and reinstatement to the position. Damages that could be available include lost pay and benefits, emotional distress [if there are physical manifestations], punitive damages, and attorney fees.
This is not specific advice and does not create an attorney-client relationship. You should seek legal counsel to assist with your case and advise you regarding the applicable limitations periods and duty to mitigate damages.
