Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Oregon

How to get off a Shared lease

How do I get off of a lease with two other people signed on the lease? I have found roomates to replace my half of the rent and the keep turning them down and refusing to sign me off the lease. I have paid Feburaury's rent and am not currently living there anymore but still am on the lease. I am very worried they will continue to refuse to take me off the lease and force me keep paying rent and keep turning down replacement tenants. Can the landlord take me off?

Re: How to get off a Shared lease

The landlord is not required to permit you to get off the lease. This is particularly true if the proposed replacement tenants do not meet the landlord's rental requirements. You are responsible for the lease until it expires.

You may want to try to negotiate with the landlord and offer a payment of some sort in exchange for the landlord terminating your future responsibility, but if the landlord is not willing to agree, you have no right to require him to release you.
