Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Oregon

Ok....not sure if this is the right place but we have a question. Our dog got out of the gate the other day and ran towards a lady that was walking her dog. Her dog leaped and knocked her down. My daughter grab our dog and put him back in the yard. Our dog did not touch her or her dog. When I came out the driveway my daughter got in the car and told me the lady fell down but when I saw her she was standing up. When I came back 2-3 minutes later she was gone. The next day she come over and says her back hurt. We told her we where sorry. Since then she has been back to our house again mind you we live 1/2 mile away and she walks over here every time. The 2nd time she comes over she says she had a laptop in her backpack and it might be broke and she hopes that is not a problem. My daughter says she did not have a backpack on the day she fell. I feel she is trying to get money out of us and want to know what are rights are???

She can sue you for the bodily injury and economic injury (broken laptop) she claims resulted from your dog's charge toward her dog. She could pretty easily prove you were negligent in allowing your dog to charge towards her. She can file her claim, up to $10,000, in small claims court without an attorney. She would have to prove that she was injured and prove that her laptop was damaged. You should contact your homeowners' insurance agent and see if you are covered for this type of incident.
