Legal Question in Personal Injury in Oregon
So nearly 6 months ago, I wrote a a post about a local blogger. It was full of lies and embellished fact. It was posted to a closed group on Facebook, but the members of that group has shared it with other people. I claimed that the blogger came to my family's restaurant to harassed my parents over an article I wrote. I claimed that I called the police on him but never did.
Today the blogger messaged me on Facebook regarding that post, and confronted me about it. I admit to him that it was a mistake and that I mistaken someone else for him. I offered to retract that statement and apologize publicly about it. He said he need to talk to his attorney. Would he be able to sue me for damage to his reputation?

Yes, but he would have to prove that your mistake was intentional or reckless. He would also have to prove the existence of whatever damages he would be claiming. And you could interpose Oregon's anti-SLAPP statute to get the case quickly dismissed, in all likelihood.
