Settlement Needed Before I Turn 18.

I was in an cra accident almost two years ago. My mother, sister and myself all got a settlement check. Now i am not living with my parents do to family problems. I live in a transitional housing program, but I need the money for my settlement so i can move on with my life and start college. My question is : Is there anyway i can get this money before i turn 18?

Re: Settlement Needed Before I Turn 18.

If you have a legal guardian besides a parent, they can do this for you. Are you an "emancipated minor?" There is a legal process that one can use to have the courts declare that you are emancipated, although that might not remove the disability you have legally -- that disability being that any contracts you sign (including settlement agreements) are voidable by you when you turn 18. As a result, the insurance companies usually will NOT pay to a minor directly without SOME adult who has some legal relationshipo to you to take responsiblity. Tell me, how serious is the injury claim? What is the nature of your injury? How much had to be spent on medical bills? And, how soon will you turn 18? Give me a call or, better yet, drop me an email if you'd like([email protected]). Good luck.
