Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Oregon

Couple living together and owning property; rights after breakup?

My friend in Oregon has lived with her boyfriend for the past 7 years and they own a house together.

Recently, he broke off the relationship, and now she feels compelled to move out because she couldn't afford the mortgage payments on her own.

Seems to me that they'd both be equally responsible for the mortgage payments until the house sold, am I right? Not that one person decides he's going to live there and she's up the creek just because her income is less.

Also, what if she didn't want to sell the house and could manage payments with a roommate? Does she have any right to do this?

Thank you very much.

Your friend would be entitled to file for a dissolution of domestic partnership. It is important that she consult an attorney so that she can understand her rights in regards to what to do with the home. Feel free to provide her with my contact information.
