Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Oregon
Landlords and dogs
We have recently moved into a duplex. On the other side of the duplex lives the daughter of our new landlord. She has 2 dogs and 3 cats. We have one dog. We would like to get another dog, but the landlord considered the request and said no. Is it discrimination to allow the other tenant to have 2 dogs (even though it is his daughter) and only allow us to have 1 dog?

Re: Landlords and dogs
Yes, but this kind of discrimination is not prohibited by law.
A landlord is free to make decisions about how many and what kind of pets he or she choses to allow on the rental property. The mere fact that another tenant has been allowed more dogs than you is not a prohibited form of discrimination.
