Rent

In July of 2008 my rent was increased by $50 I just recieved a notice that my rent would be going up $50 more in Jan--name removed--There have been no improvements made to my apartment since I moved in 15 years ago--name removed--Can they continue to increase my rent?

Yes, the landlord can continue to raise the rent. In Oregon there are no limits that limit rent increases.

Susan is right, unless you have a lease or contract with the landlord which specifies your rent for a stated period.

Now, you could contact your landlord and say, "I will stay and pay the higher rent only if you give me a lease for 5 years at a monthly rent that does not increase." See what happens. You might be able to stabilize your rent for a few years.

Note that, thanks to the coming severe recession, rents might actually go down. So don't agree to a lease that specifies the rent for 5 years. Agree to a lease that specifies that the stated rent will not increase (but can decrease).
