sec 8

Sirs, I was in sec 8 housing 5 years ago and was evicted. The eviction was unfair. I'm trying to get back into sec 8. How can I get into a private sector apt. (using sec 8) having this past eviction? What do I tell a potential landlord so I get accepted? ty sf 8/3 ps. currently 78% of my income goes to housing.

Re: sec 8

If the process did not go all the way through to a judgment, then the landlord is not allowed to use it against you in making a rental determination. However, a landlord is not required to agree to rent to a tenant using Section 8, regardless of that tenant's rental history.

If your eviction went all the way through to final judgment and you have an eviction judmement on your record, you will need to be truthful to the potential new landlord and explain what happened. It will not be easy to find a landlord who is willing to take a chance on someone who has already been evicted. Just saying that the eviction was "unfair" is unlikely to convince a new landlord to take a chance on you.
