Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Oregon
Would this make a case?
My co-worker has just quit her work because of sexual harassment issued by our Manager. She is 19 and has been asked out at least 4 times by this man, has had salacious comments made to, has been touched wrongly (read: bra strap) and leered at. Her final straw came last night when as she was doing her job, she was cornered by the man in a dark part of the building as to the rumors of her quitting.
All the other four members of the front desk staff (including myself) have endured varying degrees of harassment from this man over the past 3 months, everything from leering to uncomfortable touching. It is known that one former employee quit because of the harassment and the manager knows of at least one customer who was ran out of the business due to unwelcome advances by this man.
My question is if this is enough to support a harassment claim or if things have to be more overt than it already is.
Thank you,--name removed--

Re: Would this make a case?
Sexual harassment becomes unlawful and can form the basis of a lawsuit when the unwelcome conduct has become so severe or pervasive as to alter working conditions. The situation described sounds like it might meet the test. You should consult an attorney and provide more details.
