Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Oregon

Unwanted Sexual Advance

Recently, I was at a car dealership and the saleman slapped my butt, when I asked why he did this he shrugged it off and pretended he didn't do anything. What should I do?

Re: Unwanted Sexual Advance

Unwanted sexual advances are improper and subject the offender to civil liability. Your claims include a claim against the dealership for allowing this individual to subject customers to this kind of conduct as well as a potential claim against the individual for sexual battery. You might want to contact the Civil Rights Division of the Bureau of Labor to inquire about a claim against the dealership under the public accommodations provisions of the law, although that agency does not have jurisdiction over the potential battery claim. The Portland office can be reached at 503.731.4200. These claims may not give rise to large damages based on the isolated nature of the incident, but I don't have enough information to assess that aspect of your issue. Good luck with your claims.
