Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Oregon

My aunt has recently asked me to be the executor of her will. This require a good bit of work as we live in a different state (OR for her-WA for me), there are minor grandchildren are major beneficiaries, assets that will likely need to be sold as well as investments that will need to be managed. What kind of compensation should be expected? Would this include transportation back and forth?

Oregon law provides for a graduated percentage of the estate to be paid to the personal representative (executor) of a will. It is expected that the PR will need to manage assets, sell things, pay creditors, etc. A PR is also entitled to reimbursement of his or her expenses, such as transportation, postage, etc.

Most things that a PR needs to do, do not require the PR's presence in Oregon, they can be done from out of state (things like paying bills, reviewing bank accounts, etc.). We often work with out-of-state PR's in completing estates. Most only need to come to Oregon a very few times.

If the PR has to do extraordinary things to conclude the estate, he or she can petition the court for additional compensation.
