What is owed upon death?

Husband and wife married 18 years. Husband has multiple sclerosis at marriage. Over married life husband incurs great medical debt, some covered by insurance but alot not covered. Husband dies. Is wife legally responsible for remaining medical debt of husband?

Yes. The husband's estate BECOMES the wife's separate property when the community ends due to death. The community's debts still get paid - unless the W takes a bankruptcy or negotiates with the creditors.
