Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Oregon

Property Tax Payor

The property that my kids and I have been living on for three years is in two dead peoples names. The people the property was deeded to are in and out of prison. I have been paying the property taxes for the last three years, they are still three years behind though. I would like to find out what rights I might have with the property? Considering that if I weren't here, the county would own it?

Re: Property Tax Payor

To properly answer this question I really need some more information. For example, under what terms did you move into the house? Are you paying any rent to live there? How and when was the house deeded to the people in prison?

But on the surface, it would appear that you are a tenant on the property. The money you have paid for property taxes would likely be considered rent.

If the property had been correctly deeded from the deceased owners to the two people in prison, then title would show in the prisoners' name(s).

You may want to consider trying to purchase the property at a discounted value due to what has been happening.
