If a forged signature cheque is paid in clearing by mistake , what consequences will be for the bank employee?

obviously you would have forwarded this matter to your seniors, it has to be seen that whether the cheque is furnished by the actual account holder or a stolen cheque is presented in order to defraud.you have not mentioned at what stage the matter was detected before or after the payment ?
