Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Pakistan

A person lodged FIR in a police station that my buffaloes are been in custody of another person who doesn't return me back those buffaloes (but he doesn't gave any sort of solid written or verbal evidence in this regard). Police men in their uniform took action, and at night raid on the person with possession of buffaloes and recovered all buffaloes and took them to the possession of applicant. My question is this that is police can legitimately do such act of recovery without the prior permission from any law court (the sole proof of honesty of the applicant is the FIR itself. The other party is still insisting that those buffaloes doesn't belong to the applicant.)
