Defamation Law defences

I have been booked for alleged defamation regarding my reply on affidavit in a civil suit. My opponent in civil suit has filed criminal case for defamation that i HAVE ALLegedly used abusive language in my reply against him. Please state my chances and defences. I have used words that the opponent is a person of QUESTIONABLE CHARACHTER though I have explained truly with evidence that he has defrauded number of times and as such i stated that he is a person of questionable charachter

as you have not mentioned that this affidavit was filed under what circumstances and what is nature of case in which it was filed, because in a normal practice in civil suit witnesses are to file affidavit for basic averment they wish to advance in favor of the contents of the case. is this the scenario or is a different one?
