Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

Eviction/Security?

I purchased an apartment building and there were tenants already living there. they pay month by month. No lease. They now owe me back rent ($1200) and I would like to start the eviction process. To complicate matters, I don't have any proof they did or didn't pay security to the former owner. Am I responsible for their security? Do they have to prove they paid the former owner? What is my first step?

Re: Eviction/Security?

As the property owner and landlord it was your responsibility to determine prior to your closing on the property if there were any rents or security deposits....did you use a settlement company, did you tell them about the rents?

In regards to the delinquent tenants, do you have their leases, are they on a lease, if not you will need to evict them, by legal means! In other words contact my office at your earliest convenience, or risk not be able to rent the apartment for quite some time.
