I had put some furniture in the layaway and now the company has filed a chapter 11 how can I get back the money I had deposited?

11 U.S.C. 507(a)(7) provides a _priority_ for "unsecured claims of individuals, to the extent of $2,225 for each such individual, arising from the deposit, before the commencedment of the case, of money in connection with the purchase, lease, or rental of property, or the purchase of servcies, for the personal, family, or household use of such individuals, that were not delivered or provided." You might contact the Debtor's attorney to see whether provision already is being made to repay people in your situation, but be prepared to fill out and file a Proof of Claim (available at http://www.paeb.uscourts.gov/pages/forms/BK_Form_B10.pdf), checking the appropriate box in the Unsecured Priority Claim section.

If you are listed in the bankruptcy you should receive a claims form automatically, otherwise I can't think of anything to add to the other answer already posted.
