Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Pennsylvania
Getting desperate
I need to file bankruptcy. I owe so much I am not even sure where to start. No credit cards. Utility companies, hospitals, Drs. bills, one repo on a van and one eviction. I'm sure there's more but I'm not sure of everything. I rent, own a 6 year old vehicle (paid cash no car payment) and not much else. I have a low paying job and 3 kids and cannot afford a lawyer. Where do I start and can I do this on my own? Please don't suggest I get a lawyer because unless you are willing to do it pro bono, there's no hope of it. Also, what assets do I have to claim, do my children's belongings count as mine? thanks

If you are going to attempt this yourself, you can download the forms at the website for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania at http://www.paeb.uscourts.gov/. Click on Local Rules, Forms and Mediation, then on Official Bankruptcy Forms.
Re: Getting desperate
If you owe anyone money, generally they can call you and write you. Also, the utility companies can shut off your utilities. A bankruptcy will eliminate the debt, but you will need to make your utility payments timely after you file. Also, the utility companies can charge a security deposit which is approximately 2 month's payments.
You can call the below number and they may be able to represent you pro bono, as you defintely should have a lawyer to file.

If you can obtain help from friends or family sufficient to pay my fee which is $1,000.00, plus a $200.00 filing fee, I could help you. In that event, feel free to call or E-mail for a free initial consult.
