Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Pennsylvania

self file bankruptcy kit

Can I prepare my own bankruptcy petition instead of hiring a lawyer? If so is it difficult to file and understand?

You are permitted to file a bankruptcy action without using a lawyer. The filing fees are $200 and you can get information and download the forms at http://www.paeb.uscourts.gov/.

If you decide you need a lawyer to do this, please feel free to contact me.

When a lawyer's help is not essential, such as for a small claims case or attending a child support hearing, I do not recommend that you hire a lawyer.

In my opinion, the field of bankruptcy does require a lawyer's help. One reason is that the bankruptcy code is thicker than the bible and even lawyers and judges often disagree about the meaning of many sections. Hiring a lawyer definitely survives the cost-benefit analysis, because the standard fee is only $1,000.00 plus a $200.00 court fee. Most consumer debt is more than $15,000.00.

If I can be of any help, do not hesitate to call or E-mail on a free initial basis.
