Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Pennsylvania

Will filing bankruptcy relieve me of a civil court debt?

Two years ago during my divorce, I signed a promisary note to my exwife stating that I would pay her 8000 if I ever sold the house. Last year I sold the house for a loss and did not pay her. She filed a civil judgement and was awarded over 29,000 because of late fees etc. If I file bankruptcy will it relieve me of this judgement and the need to pay her any money?

Thanks for your help!

I think it depends on whether the note is considered in the nature of support or alimony. It may not be dischargeable but whether it is or not, you may file a Chapter 13 and pay it off over a period of time.
