Legal Question in Business Law in Pennsylvania
Forming a Clientelle
I'm a hairdresser in PA and was recently fired from my job because my boss heard i wanted to open my own shop. I'd like to send my clients postcards letting them know I will be opening my own salon. I never signed anything when i started working there other than a paper stating she could use my image for advertising purposes. She is also threatening to file a lawsuit against me if i were to send out anything to any of the customers. My question is am I legally allowed to send my clients a postcard letting them know the future location of the salon? Any advice you can give me would be a big help.

Re: Forming a Clientelle
You asked about soliciting clients of your old hairdressing firm.
There's no problem 1) soliciting your own clients and 2) any clients where your information did not come from a proprietary or confidential source. For example, if you downloaded a copy of the store's customer list, that would probably be wrong (but not necessarily actionable). If you copied names from any easily accessible source, such as a Rolodex or on a computer you routinely had access to the argument would be easier for you to use the information. your best bet is to use the names you have and use the phone book or Internet to identify addresses. Using the eMail addresses you have or could find would also be appropriate.
Good luck. And when you or a client need an attorney, call.

Roger
You are not only legally allowed, but it a very common practice. As I stated above,
